About the B&B

The hostel was transformed 12 years ago into a hostel / B&B. Previously, the part where the B&B rooms are located was a post office. And the house was a health center. With different rooms. This section was the hostel with shared bathrooms and toilets. The previous owner has renovated this with a lot of love. It has become a beautiful accommodation. What is striking are the bright rooms, each with its own entrance and its own bathroom with its own shower and toilet. You do not need to share it with other guests.

Environment

Sjötorp is a small village with about 500 inhabitants. And located where the Göta Canal is meeting the Vänern. In the summer it is very touristic and almost all bike around or sail arund. There are also some hiking trails. Along the Göta Canal and in the forest.

What to in the surroundings?

Sjötorps Vandrarhem and Rum is located in the heart of Sjötorp. This means that you are not far from the restaurants and shops that Sjötorp has to offer. You are also not far from Lake Vänern or Göta Canal. When it comes to food, you have Henry's, Kanalkrogen, Kajutan and Baltzar. There is also an ice cream bar (person ice cream), a fish shop (Maltese Fish) and a small bookstore where you can also buy hats and knick-knacks. Unfortunately, the restaurants / shops are only open during the high season.

Göta Kanal & Vänern

Götakanal is a channel in Götaland, Sweden. The canal is 190.5 kilometers long and runs from Sjötorp on the eastern shore of Lake Vänern via Vättern to Söderköping on the Baltic Sea. Together with the Göta River and the Trollhättekanaal, it forms a viable connection between the Kattegat and the Baltic Sea.

The Göta Canal, which opened in 1832, was an important link in the transport of wood and iron between Gothenburg and Stockholm. The construction of the canal was initiated by Baltzar von Platen. The canal was designed by the Scottish engineer Thomas Telford.

With an area of 5655 km², Lake Vänernsjön (Swedish: Lake Vänern) is Sweden's largest lake and the third largest lake in Europe. By comparison, the Zuiderzee was approximately 5900 km² and the current IJsselmeer is approximately 1100 km².

Lake Vänern gets its water supply from the Klarälven River and all types of rivers from the mountain ranges that separate Norway and Sweden here. The water is drained via the Göta River. This river is largely channeled and therefore forms part of the Götak Canal, the waterway between Gothenburg and Stockholm.

The lake is located in the southern part of Götaland and borders the landscapes of Västergötland, Dalsland, Värmland and Närke.

Other large lakes in Sweden are Lake Vättern and Lake Mälarsjön.

Some places on the lake are Kristinehamn, Mariestad, Sjötorp, Vänersborg, Lidköping, Åmål and Karlstad.

Restaurants

There are several restaurants in Sjötorp. Kajutan at the Götakanal and Kanalkrogen at Vänern lake, has delicious Swedish food and nice places to sit outside. Baltzar has delicious sandwiches for lunch. And a beautiful location by the Götakanal. From here departs on Wednesdays and Saturdays and arrives on Thursdays and Sundays, Bellevue. This is a beautiful boat sailing between Sjötorp and Törboda. Bellevue is a passenger ship in traffic on the Göta kanal. The ship was built in 1961 by Krögerwerft GmbH in Rendsburg in Germany as Bellevue.

The original passenger capacity was 320 passengers. The vessel has a speed of 11.5 knots. The passenger capacity is now 220 passengers.

How do I find it?

Finding the B&B is not at all difficult. You just have to drive to the heart of Sjötorp, so you go on Slussvägen. And than when you come to Sjötorps Livs you turn onto Sjöfallsvägen. Once there you will see a sign that says Sjötorps Vandrarhem & Rum, now you are at you destination.
